Act today to help stop the federal soft drink tax. In the next two weeks, both the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means committees will decide whether to introduce a massive tax on our beverages, including soft drinks, fruit drinks, teas and flavored waters, to help pay for health care reform. This tax is the biggest risk to our economy right now. As a result, we need to work together to oppose this discriminatory and regressive tax, and I’m asking that you join our effort today. Here is what you can do: 1) Join Americans Against Food Taxes by clicking here 2) Contact your members of Congress through the coalition Web site by clicking here 3) Encourage your family and friends to join our cause by clicking here 4) Text NOFOODTAX to 99702 In an economy like this, the last thing we need government to do is raise taxes on the middle-class. A discriminatory tax on beverages has proven to be as harmful as it is unpopular, and it will negatively impact hard-working middle-class families. I I have personally contacted my U.S. legislators, and I urge you to take action today to do the same. Your participation will make a difference. Please go to the Americans Against Food Taxes Web site to join our coalition and to contact your members of Congress. As As a sports organization, this effects all drinks, whether it is bottled, at the concession or restaurants; not to mention I personally do not want our government making this decision for me. We can make a difference. Thank you. Carol Moran GCSM |

Reply with quote | #2 | I am with you Carol, just another tax to get in our pockets and take money that I would rather be spending on softball!
People, please follow the links and and let your voices be heard. All beverage companies (Coca Cola, Pepsi, Gatorade, you get the idea) will be effected by this and they put a lot of money into sports programs, local and national. They take the hit, we take the hit! Follow the links in Carol's post.

Reply with quote | #3 | Tammy, You are so right. The ripple effect of this situation can get out of hand. Next thing you know the gov't will be adding an additional tax to our food, (in the name of heath care reform no less) using the statistics of overweight Americans to benefit their cause. Thanks so much for your assistance.

Reply with quote | #4 | So, what do you say to those who say if it gives everyone healthcare then I don't mind spending a little more? This is not me, but some I spoke to. Is this like Boston Tea Party taxes? Of course there are those who just don't get it but how bad is the taxation they propose? I don't support it but can you tell us more? |
