Just wanted to share some fun pics of what the Springdale Chicks have been doing so far for the holiday season. We've built our first EVER Chicks Christmas float for our local parades!
We worked so hard...but had such a great time doing three parades in 9 days! Our float was based on "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." Hoping that our float serves as a reminder that we each play a roll in creating a better world.
In the Springdale Christmas parade we won the top honors, the Presidents Trophy, for having the best theme. This means that the Springdale Chicks will be ushering in Santa Claus at the end of the 2011 Christmas parade. So exciting!!We also participated in the Bentonville parade which is the largest daytime parade in Arkansas plus we just finished the Rogers evening Christmas parade on Monday night.
Our float was SUPER PINK and white with silver as you'll notice in the pics. Rather than peace doves, we were sporting peace signs, lights, pink awareness ribbons and a huge flat sparkly Christmas tree with foam ornaments of awareness ribbons, softballs and peace signs! The white lighted peace sign on the top was the best! (I'm going to try to sneak the whole thing into my house for the rest of the season! Maybe none of the Chicks will notice it when they visit?!)
The best part of the float: The "opened" gifts at the base of the tree represented gifts that the Chicks had offerred to our communities. HOPE, CURE (working for it), TEAM WORK, GIRL POWER, LOVE, PEACE & VOLUNTEERISM. These are things that we can empower all girls to do. Our side float signs stated, "Springdale Chicks...more than just softball!"
Someone in our group transformed the ball that you see near the back of the float into the earth. It is seated in a large glove...representing that we hold the future of the entire world in our hands.
Right above that earth ball was our largest sign. It read LET THERE BE PEACE ON EARTH AND LET IT BEGIN WITH ME!
We had girls riding up on the float and then walkers (players, coaches, moms) on the street at the sides of the float giving away candy. Most girls wanted to be giving away that candy!! If I could give a prize to the most spirited group of candy slingers...it would be our 10U girls! They were so energetic...downright zippy! Which should be no surprise, that's how they are on the field.
Here are just a few pics, but you can see more on the main page of our site at: http://springdalechicks.com/

Tonight we deconstruct the float, but I wanted to share some of this experience with you guys. Our organization really pulled together in regards to building, donations, creativity, attendance, showing up in the COLD, etc.
They've been fabulous and I'm proud to call each and every one of them (players & families) CHICKS.
Oh...another note. We designed and built our beautiful float in two weeks! We'll start earlier next year, for sure. Chatter has already begun...
Happy Holidays to our softball community!!!
