In the next week or so I should have some pretty exciting news to share regarding a 10U REC/Class C NAFA Northeastern Oklahoma State Championship. Stay tuned.

Just for the record, I've gotten a bunch of e-mails on this deal and I hate to be vague, but I'd rather have all the facts before I start providing more information. We are meeting with the NAFA next Wednesday (April 9) to finalize a brand new deal. What I can say is that ALL 10U REC/Class C teams that want a chance to play for a NAFA sanctioned Northeastern Oklahoma State Championship should keep May 2-4 or May 16-18 open and May 25-27.

Stay tuned ...

NAFA 2008 10&U REC/CLASS “C” Oklahoma State Championship
Harry Hosey (state director for the NAFA) and I have discussed at length this year that there is nothing in place for 10U REC teams in Oklahoma from a NAFA standpoint. According to Harry, Sapulpa is supposed to host a NAFA "C" Area Championship on July 11-13, but how the teams will get there, where they will come from and what the feeder tournaments are for "C" teams is not currently defined.

Owasso is already hosting two 10&U NAFA Qualifiers in Owasso. The first is May 2-4 (sign-up deadline is April 25) and the second is May 16-18 (sign-up deadline is May 9). But again, these are OPENS for A/B teams ... not REC.

So Harry, the OGSA and I have come up with a plan to give the 10U REC teams a chance at some state bragging rights.

We have amended the May 2-4 and May 16-18 10U NAFA Qualifiers from straight OPENs (A/B teams) to include REC divisions.

The 10U Open Qualifiers will be handled as normal with teams earning points toward NAFA Nationals.

The 10U REC teams will be playing for a chance to compete in a 10U REC NAFA Oklahoma State Championship to be held in Owasso on May 23-25, 2008.

We have received a lot of e-mail today regarding the newly announced 2008 NAFA 10U Oklahoma State Championship. Thanks. We have also received some e-mail and calls regarding the fee structure.

What some out-of-town teams may not realize is what it takes for a team to be part of the Owasso Girls Softball Association. Each Owasso teams pays $40 per player as a fund raiser in support of the association over and above the registration fees we require each player to participate in the league. Our teams are required to participate in field work days and help out when weather conditions during the week cause possible cancellation of league games or tournament games. We even require our competitive teams that play leagues organized by other associations to participate in the fund raisers. Our tournaments are designed as fund raisers for our competitive teams and we encourage our own league teams to enter to make the tournaments better events. It takes a large sum of money and a large amount of volunteer effort to support our association and maintain our facility.

With that said, because this is not a run-of-the-mill tournament and does come with some state bragging rights, we are going to change the pricing to the following regardless of whether your an Owasso team or not:
Qualifiers: $200
Championship: $225

Keep in mind that each girl will get a participation medal for playing in the championship tournament.

As I've said, I do understand the $$ of a REC team as I have to hit my parents up each time we need money.

Start signing up. Only have so much room.

You can't register for this tournament on VTD because it's not an ASA tournament. Call (918.851.4185) or e-mail (osudaddy33@yahoo.com) for details and to sign-up.
